The term "technopark" is an abbreviation for "science park" or "technology park". It refers to a structure that serves for the growth and scaling of businesses, including working environment, laboratory facilities and modern office facilities.

The International Association of Science Parks (IASP) defines a technopark as a place that is formally and/or actively affiliated with one or more universities or other higher education institutions, aimed at promoting the establishment and growth of knowledge and state-of-the-art industrial enterprises.

1773 ITU Teknopark does not have a business plan that will cause an increase in concentration in our Ayazağa campus. With this understanding, ITU Design and Prototyping Center, the first building on the campus, is a building that will primarily and predominantly be at the service of students and academics. and it makes business plans to improve its academic life outside the campus.

Here, if the invention is made using the resources of a university, the right ownership of ITU or the relevant university is evaluated and the process is coordinated between the relevant parties.

You can get support from us when (1) you have a method/product/prototype you have developed and you want to present them to the industry by designing them, or (2) you want to carry out the R&D projects within the scope of the cooperation you have developed with companies through TTO.

Our TTO team first works with you to grasp the critical elements of the project. It analyzes the targeted market and customer profile by identifying the target companies with you. It supports you in making contact with the specified companies and in carrying out the project communication while protecting your rights. It develops alternative business models so that the parties can establish a win-win relationship from the cooperation to be realized. It works to maximize the probability of success by accompanying you during the operation of the project.

In addition to the services it offers, our TTO provides tax advantages in the R&D projects you will develop, as it is a company located within 1773 ITU Teknopark.

Projects are evaluated by 3 INDEPENDENT expert referees assigned according to their respective fields of expertise, and decisions are made based on the average of these evaluations.

For this reason, (1) filling out the "Project Information Form" by the relevant project owner, (2) making a contract between the financing or sponsoring institution/organization and the TTO, (3) making a contract with the project coordinator and his team, and (4) Academicians should be requested to appoint from their universities.

TTO questions / Intellectual Property

The authority to dispose of the inventions and designs that emerge as a result of scientific studies and research carried out within the universities belongs to the university.

In this context, when an invention occurs, the inventor is obliged to notify the university of his invention in writing and without delay. If the inventor has made a patent application, a notification is made to the university that a patent application has been made.

In case the university claims right ownership on the invention, it also makes the patent application. Otherwise, the invention becomes a free invention.

It is obligatory to notify the public institution that provides the support in accordance with the relevant regulation, of the inventions that emerge in the projects supported by public institutions and organizations. The relevant institution shall notify the beneficiary of the project support in writing within one year from the date of this notification, whether or not it claims right ownership on the invention.

If a patent application is considered for an invention, no publication or ANY SHARE DISCLOSING THE INVENTION should be made before the application is made. Publishing and sharing about the invention can be interpreted as the invention being disclosed and included in the state of the art, and may completely prevent patenting.
The disclosure of the invention WITHOUT DISCLOSURE 12 months before the date of filing of the patent application is called the tolerance period according to the legislation in Turkey. The tolerance period is not a practice found in all countries. The period may differ in the countries where it is valid.

For applications to be made within the tolerance period, the application must be made within the 12-month tolerance period for Turkey. Otherwise, the patent right is forfeited.

In accordance with the Industrial Property Law No. 6779; Higher education institutions have rights on inventions developed in higher education institutions. For this reason, when there is an invention developed at ITU, an invention notification is made to 1773 ITU Technopark TTO, one of the authorized institutions of the university.

After the notification to be made, the invention is evaluated in terms of patentability criteria and commercialization, and it is decided whether a patent application will be made under the ownership of ITU. If it is decided to apply under the ownership of ITU; Patent application preparations and management of the application process can be done by 1773 ITU Technopark TTO.

In such a case, the preparation of the documents in the application process and the answering of the decisions regarding the patent application from the official offices are carried out in coordination with the 1773 ITU Teknopark TTO experts and inventors.

If the application for the invention is not under the authority of ITU and the invention is released, the academician who makes the invention decides how the process will be carried out.

The processing fees of inventions that are decided to be patented by ITU will be covered by the 1773 ITU Teknopark TTO.

  • It follows the funding mechanisms open to application, makes announcements and informs the relevant researchers and technopark companies.

No fee is charged for the services provided for academics to benefit from national R&D funds. In the services provided to technopark companies and other industrial establishments, the project preparation cost is offered, and in some cases, a success premium is defined in the project budget, which can be covered by the indirect costs part of the project budget.

Related coordination support is provided for the University-Industry Cooperation in order to support the projects by ITU academicians who are experts in the relevant fields in the R&D projects carried out by Teknopark companies and other industrial organizations, and consultancy is provided for the relevant academics to take part in the developed project in case of agreement of the parties.

Support services and guidance are provided for the protection and commercialization of intellectual and industrial rights arising within the scope of supported R&D projects.

Also, in all R&D projects, all parties and potential customers that may be related to the project are contacted and an environment of cooperation is tried to be created in order for the project results to be realized and to achieve the desired technical, economic and/or social impact.

Especially the programs carried out by TÜBİTAK, T.C. Ministry of Industry and Technology, T.C. Support is provided by all state institutions such as the Ministry of Economy and affiliated/related organizations of such ministries and within the framework of the conditions specified for the Istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA) calls.

1773 ITU Teknopark TTO can guide researchers and companies in the development of the project proposal during the writing phase of the project proposal and evaluate the feasibility and commercialization potential of the project. However, as a general rule, 1773 ITU Teknopark TTO DOES NOT OWN THE PROJECT WRITTEN.

However, if the researcher wishes, 1773 İTÜ Teknopark TTO, free of charge, can mediate in obtaining services from one of the consultancy firms working in project writing for domestic or foreign fund supports, provided that the relevant resources are provided by the researcher.

When the project support and preparation requests exceed the available resources, 1773 İTÜ Teknopark TTO A.Ş. Resource planning is made with the priority area and impact assessment of the Board of Directors.

No fee is charged for the services provided for academics to benefit from national R&D funds. In the services provided to technopark companies and other industrial establishments, the project preparation cost is offered, and in some cases, a success premium is defined in the project budget, which can be covered by the indirect costs part of the project budget.

Related coordination support is provided for the University-Industry Cooperation in order to support the projects by ITU academicians who are experts in the relevant fields in the R&D projects carried out by Teknopark companies and other industrial organizations, and consultancy is provided for the relevant academics to take part in the developed project in case of agreement of the parties.

Support services and guidance are provided for the protection and commercialization of intellectual and industrial rights arising within the scope of supported R&D projects.

Also, in all R&D projects, all parties and potential customers that may be related to the project are contacted and an environment of cooperation is tried to be created in order for the project results to be realized and to achieve the desired technical, economic and/or social impact.

Especially the programs carried out by TÜBİTAK, T.C. Ministry of Industry and Technology, T.C. Support is provided by all state institutions such as the Ministry of Economy and affiliated/related organizations of such ministries and within the framework of the conditions specified for the Istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA) calls.

1773 ITU Teknopark TTO can guide researchers and companies in the development of the project proposal during the writing phase of the project proposal and evaluate the feasibility and commercialization potential of the project. However, as a general rule, 1773 ITU Teknopark TTO DOES NOT OWN THE PROJECT WRITTEN.

However, if the researcher wishes, 1773 İTÜ Teknopark TTO, free of charge, can mediate in obtaining services from one of the consultancy firms working in project writing for domestic or foreign fund supports, provided that the relevant resources are provided by the researcher.

When the project support and preparation requests exceed the available resources, 1773 İTÜ Teknopark TTO A.Ş. Resource planning is made with the priority area and impact assessment of the Board of Directors.
